People have reacted with anger and astonishment to comments made by the Chairman of Nat West saying thst  ‘it is not difficult to get on the property ladder

Interviewed this morning on Radio 4’s Today Programme Sir Howard Davies told the show

“I don’t think it’s that difficult to buy a house.”

The interviewer Amol Rajan responded by saying

“To buy a house in this country? Are we living in the same country or are you reporting from overseas?”

To which the Chairman said “You have to save, that’s the way it always used to be”

Rajan then continued with the questioning highlighting the multiples of income needed to buy a house,

Davies replied the Global Financial Crisis showed dangers of too easy credit.

“I totally recognise there are people who are finding it difficult to start the process. They will have to save more.”

Among the many comments on social media was

“Laughable really. Living on another planet. Utterly blind to this country’s severe housing shortage.“
