Deputy Prime Minister and Greater Manchester MP Angela Rayner was amongst dignitaries commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany
“The troops of the Eighth British Army Corp found there was no purpose to this place, but suffering and death.” said Rayner
Tulips were laid at the main memorial sign at Bergen-Belsen – as survivors, families and organisations arrive
It is estimated that up to 70,000 people died at the camp
Sixteen year old Anne Frank is believed to have died a mere two weeks
Rayner said that it was an honour to meet with survivors this morning and hear their stories – it’s hard to comprehend the unimageable suffering so many faced here.
