An evening of Historical Crime  Fiction is on offer this Wednesday at Manchester’s Georgian Portico Library.

This evening delves into the joys of historical crime fiction with talks from two expert speakers.

First Jennifer Palmer will discuss the widespread and continuing appeal of historical crime fiction to generations of readers.

Following an intermission for tea and cakes, Jean Briggs will deliver one of her wonderfully animated readings from her new book, Death at Hungerford Stairs, one of a series of historical whodunnits, which places Charles Dickens as a detective with a particular talent for exploring the psychology of the murderer, constructing a narrative and using his writer’s imagination to crack the case.
