The Crown Prosecution service are considering whether to charge Labour MP and former Manchester Councillor Mike Amesbury over the incident last week when he allegedly punched a man in the street in a late night altercation

Because of his position as a member of parliament, the case has been passed to the special crime division of the CPS in London, rather than Cheshire Police

Cheshire Police said a 55-year-old man was voluntarily interviewed under caution and “released pending further enquiries”.

Amesbury was suspended from the Labour Party following the incident in Frodsham
