Travellers were left on planes on the tarmac and faced long queues in arrivals as a nationwide failure of e gates hit Manchester Airport this evening
The airport was one of several across the country hit by the outage that prevented the automatic e gates from working forcing staff to manually process passengers coming into the country
Manchester Airport issued a statement during the evening saying
“We are aware of an issue with UK Border Force’s systems across the country, affecting a significant number of airports.
“Our Resilience Team and customer services colleagues are supporting passengers while UK Border Force and the Home Office fix the issue.”
The Home Offic said in a statement early on Wednesday: “eGates at UK airports came back online shortly after midnight.”
