An award-winning affordable development in Manchester which will help residents on the path to living independently has officially opened.
Clover House in Ardwick has 24 one-bedroom apartments including two wheelchair adaptable homes, all for social rent as temporary supported move-on homes.
Working closely with contractors RP Tyson Construction Ltd and DK Architects, Jigsaw Homes Group has transformed a derelict brownfield site at the junction of Devonshire Street and Coverdale Crescent into much needed affordable housing, while supporting the long-term regeneration of the area.
The development was part-funded by Homes England and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme, with additional funding from GMCA’s Brownfield Fund. It provides purpose-built supported accommodation, all allocated by Manchester City Council to help meet local housing need.
Clover House has been designed to help residents on the path towards independent living, featuring fully furnished apartments, off-street parking as well as seven parking spaces and 28 cycle spaces and landscaped areas.
Tailored support will also be provided by Jigsaw Support teams based in an on‑site office at the development, with additional signposting to other support services available in two meeting rooms.
With sustainability in mind, Clover House achieves the highest EPC rating of ‘A’; featuring timber frame construction, solar PV panels, hot water heat pumps and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) units, helping to keep residents’ energy bills as low as possible.
Brian Moran, Chief Executive at Jigsaw Homes Group officially opened the scheme along with representatives from Homes England, MHCLG, Manchester City Council, RP Tyson, DK Architects and senior members of Jigsaw Support and development teams.
He said: “Clover House is the sixth high-quality, supported housing scheme we have delivered in the North West over the last three years, reflecting our strong commitment to providing homes for those in need. This was a challenging site that has only been made possible through real collaboration, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve delivered with our partners. Developments like this, with tailored on-site support to help people take the next step towards independent living, are vital, and we’re determined to do more of them in the future.”
