Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been suspended from the party after Video footage obtained by the Mail on Sunday appears to show The former Manchester Councillor throwing a punch in a street altercation in Cheshire

Earlier footage showed Amesbury repeatedly saying to a man on the ground: “You won’t ever threaten me again.”

But now the footage obtained from CCTV shows the moments before with a figure presumed to be Amesbury throwing a punch at the victim before he falls back into the road.

The MP said in an earlier statement that he ‘will cooperate with police’ released soon after he was filmed appearing to attack a constituent in the street assault at 2.48am on Saturday morning

Amesbury in the statement said that he felt threatened after an evening out with friends and had contacted Cheshire Police the following morning to report what happened during the incident

A Labour party spokesman said: “Mike Amesbury MP has been assisting Cheshire Police with their inquiries following an incident on Friday night.

“As these inquiries are now ongoing, the Labour Party has administratively suspended Mr Amesbury’s membership of the Labour Party pending an investigation.”
