Following an incredible reception from audiences at his opening concert on 26 September, the Hallé’s new Principal Conductor, Kahchun Wong, returns to The Bridgewater Hall on Saturday 26 October with a special tribute to Bruckner in his 200th anniversary year.
The orchestra will perform a four-movement version of Bruckner’s Symphony No.9 – a work that was famously left unfinished at the composer’s death and is usually performed with just the completed three movements.
Bruckner specialist, Dr. John A Phillips, has built on the very successful 2012 revision of the fourth movement, often referred to as the ‘SPCM’ Finale. The version which will be performed by the Hallé is a further reconstruction of this final movement, following decades of study and engagement with the composer’s work.
Before the concert, ticket holders can also join Dr. Phillips and Kahchun Wong, along with Hallé CEO, David Butcher for a free pre-concert ‘in conversation’ event, on the main stage at The Bridgewater Hall. This is part of the Hallé’s ‘Tuning Up’ series of pre- and post-concert events, designed to enhance the experience and give audiences a further insight into the music and artists across the season.
