Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder as they continue to investigate shots being fired on a street in Gorton on Monday night

He remains in custody for questioning.

It is believed that a group of males on bikes attacked a man with machetes before discharging a firearm and fleeing the scene.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life changing injuries.

Following the incident, two males, aged 15 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They have since been released without charge.

Detective Inspector Louise Edwards, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “The investigation is moving at a fast pace and we have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible. We are determined to deliver justice for the victim who sustained very serious life-changing injuries and is lucky to be alive. Firearms have no place on the streets of Manchester and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously.

“I urge anyone who has any information to please get in touch with us. Your information could be vital to ensuring justice is served and taking those responsible for such violent acts off our streets.
