The former Tatton Tory MP Esther McVey has come under fire after publishing a poem comparing the proposed smoking ban outside pubs and restaurants with the Nazi atrocoties in Germany

McVey used the famous poem by Martin Niemöller, describing the inaction of some against the Nazis within Germany claiming they were “pertinent words” in relation to Labour’s proposals for smoking.

Her tweet has been called “repugnant” by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

She wrote on X that she will not be bullied by people who are deliberately twisting her words adding that this new socialist Governemnt should be sending shivers down everybody’s spine

The former Common Sense Minister remembered for her attempt to ban rainbow lanyards in the Civil Service,referenced the collective shame and guilt of those who turned a blind eye as the political events that led to the Holocaust unfolded,
