With England set to play their first game of the tournament this weekend, Asda has announced the launch of ‘Nanzones’ – the first-ever football fanzones designed for elderly football fans – and there’s one coming to Manchester!

The first ‘Nanzone’ opens at Asda Manchester Eastlands on 20th June as England face Denmark. Football decor, food, drink and transport will be provided, and fans can enjoy the excitement of the game together.

The launch announcement coincides with National Loneliness Awareness Week this week, as research reveals that 1.9 million over 65s will be watching the Euros alone this summer.

Asda’s Togetherness Tracker has revealed that 3 in 5 customers cite loneliness and social isolation as key issues that need tackling in local communities, especially within the older generation, and so the Manchester Nanzone hopes to unite passionate fans who would otherwise be watching the games alone.

David Hills, Chief Customer Officer at Asda comments: Sport has a way of bringing people together like nothing else. That’s why we want to use the power of football fandom to help strengthen community spirit this summer – and the Nanzones sit at the heart of that ambition. Our colleagues and customers really care about supporting the elderly in their communities, and we hope that by encouraging the nation to join our pledge to bring people together, we can help combat loneliness and social isolation.”
