The UK economy recorded no growth in April, according to data from the Office for National Statistics

In figures that will dampen the Conservative pledge that the economy has turned the corner, the figures show growth of 0.7% in the three months to April.

Services grew 0.2%, Production fell 0.9% and Construction fell 1.4%

The ONS said some retail businesses told them their output was dented because of the wetter weather, with rainfall for the month well above the long-term average.

The poor figures might bring forward the chance of an interest rate cut according to some experts

The figures are the last official health check on UK economic growth before the election.
