Organisers of Moovin, Manchester’s popular boutique festival, have recently announced a new series of unique club shows, named ‘Moovin-In’, which bring the festival’s eclectic vibes to dance floors across the North West.

Featuring previous Moovin residents that are renowned for bringing the party, the event’s third edition will take place at O2 Victoria Warehouse Manchester on 5th May.

The legendary David Rodigan, known as the original Reggae selector and soundclash champion, will make his Moovin-In debut. Top dog in Britain’s Reggae dance halls for over thirty five years and famous for his electric on-stage energy, fans can expect a unique collection of customised dubplates and classic recordings.

Joining him is Congo Natty, aka Rebel MC, who will be making a rare Manchester appearance. Congo Natty is widely respected as one of the trailblazers in Jungle music. His influential role in one of the most phenomenal music movements in the UK means he understands the genre’s power to unite and break barriers. A spiritual soul at heart, the Rastafarian weaves positive affirmations into his song writing and has been a consistent protagonist in the uprising since 1992, responsible for seminal tracks that have transcended time.

Congo Natty’s albums are sculpted with meaning and visionary energy. His most recent work ‘Ancestorz (Rootz of Jungle)’ is the peak of his achievements and seeks to spread positivity, as well as give a voice to the new generation which will carry his torch into the future. Mikail continues to spread the Congo Natty message as a performer, musician, label owner and revolutionary; his show is one not to be missed.

Next up is Mad Professor, a disciple of Jamaican record producer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’. The Guyanese-born British dub music producer is known for leading the second generation of dub reggae and his ‘Dub Me Crazy’ album series helped take Dub to a mainstream audience. Generations on, Mad Professor continues to be at the forefront of his scene and promises to bring a performance like no other.

Alongside him is another true veteran of the urban music scene, General Levy, who is still one of the most in demand MCs in the country. The General is famous for his exhilarating sets and is frequently voted as the Best Reggae DJ/MC in the industry. Best known for the acclaimed track ‘Incredible’ which he recorded with M-Beat, attendees can expect a distinctive Jungle fest.

British Jungle and D’n’B duo Micky Finn & Aphrodite are known for their long-standing D’n’B anthems such as ‘Bad Ass’, ‘Arsonist’ and ‘Some Justice’ which remain in DJ playlists today. ‘Bad Ass’ was the first release for the pair on the Urban Takeover label in 1996 and was included in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Most Important Drum & Bass Tunes. Micky Finn, AKA ‘The Godfather’ of Jungle and D’n’B’, is a name cemented in the dance music scene since 1988. He is one of the only artists that understands the industry from so many different angles, having lived and breathed underground music for over thirty years.

Aphrodite has been a mainstay of the Worldwide Rave Scene since the early nineties and is one of the kings of jump-up style jungle: a sparse, high energy offshoot of D’n’B designed for maximum dancefloor impact featuring tracks propelled by simple rolling drum loops, huge warbling basslines and chopped-up hip-hop and ragga samples.

Dillinja is one of the more prolific producers in Jungle music with records on over ten labels (including his own). He is one of the few D’n’B artists that spends more time in the production studio than in the clubs but manages to ace both. A name still recognised not only in the scene he helped define from 1997, but across the entire Dance genre, Dillinja will bring his innovative and ever-evolving style to Moovin-In.

Residents, locals and upcoming acts always play their part in Moovin Festival and will remain to do so at the new club shows. May’s event sees MIKEY D.O.N, an award winning Reggae DJ and trophy-winning Soundbwoy killer, MARK XTC, who worked at The Manchester College for over sixteen years and utilises his expertise to inspire and train DJs/Producers of the future, DAWN RAID, HELEN K, JAZZY LIONESS, INDIKA, WOODSTAR and CAMERON SACCANI bring a taste of their Mancunian D’n’B flavours to the stage.
