A 40-year-old woman is in hospital where she is currently in a life threatening condition after being hit by a car in Stalybridge last night.

The accident happened around 10.45 on Darnton Road near to the junction of Ash Grove in Stalybridge, the women had been hit by a white Daihatsu Hi-Jet van.

The driver of the van remained at the scene and is supporting police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made but police are investigating.

Police Constable John Harrison-Gough from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “First of all, my thoughts are with the woman and her family as she fights for her life in hospital.

“We have launched an investigation into this incident and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed it to get in touch.

“We would particularly like to hear from anyone with dash-cam footage as this could really help us with our enquiries.”
