On World Food Day  Executive Chef of award-winning restaurant, 20 Stories, Manchester, Daniel Scott, has pledged to continue his support for inspiring, Manchester-based skills training charity, Back on Track, and is urging for more experts in the industry to do the same.

Back on Track, which was founded in Manchester in 1977, is a charity that works with adults who have ambitions to change their course in life for the better, supporting around 600 people every year to build the skills they need to lead more fulfilling and positive lives.

Passionate about the impact of life-affirming skills such as catering/cookery, Dan has this year devoted his time to volunteering on a weekly basis at the community centre in Ancoats, offering lessons on how to use fresh produce to create tasty dishes. Since working with the charity, Dan has seen first-hand the impact his lessons have had on the students and wants to reach even more people in need.

The relationship came about after 20 Stories’ partnership with the charity for its ‘£1 on the bill’ charity of the month initiative, which saw Dan explore how he can make an even bigger impact by utilising his skillset as a chef.

On his partnership with Back on Track, Dan said:

“Back on Track is an incredible organisation that provides learning & support for those that want it. Be it to learn a new skill, refresh skills that haven’t been used in a while or just somewhere to go and enjoy each other’s company in the café. They really have built a great community that support each other without question or judgement. People who come to Back on Track will mention the energy that exists there. It is such a positive & uplifting space, with amazing staff, that you immediately feel at home there.”

“This World Food Day, I want to highlight the importance of cooking skills & knowledge. Given that the population is struggling more than ever with the cost of food, it is so important to know how to get the most from your ingredients. Not just in terms of yield, but flavour also. The team at Back on Track have recognised this need with their ‘Core Skills for Cookery’ class.”

Dan was also recently shortlisted in the ‘Leading Chef of the year’ category at the This is Manchester Awards, taking place next month.
