Kier Starmer’s reshuffle of his Shadow cabinet saw some job changes for Greater Manchester MP’s yesterday
Kate Green was the biggest casualty leaving her front bench post as Shadow Education Secretary to be replaced by Bridget Phillipson
Kate tweeted:
“It’s been an honour to serve as Shadow Education Secretary and to learn so much from education professionals, students, parents and children.”
Wigan’s Lisa Nandy will get the job of shadowing Michael Gove’s Levelling up department moving from the role of Shadow Foreign Secretary being replaced by David Lanny while Stalybridge’s Jonathan Reynolds will be the new Shadow Work and Pension’s Secretary.
Other MP’s in our region have moved to different departments, Oldham’s Jim McMahon moving from transport Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and following in the footsteps of his predecessor Michael Meacher .
Manchester Central’s Lucy Powell moves from housing to become culture shadow
”It’s a big brief with many big issues: the rise of digital tech, online harms and social media, sport governance, making the arts, culture & music accessible, valuing content, & supporting public broadcasting” tweeted the MP
In the reshuffle Yvette Cooper returns to the front bench as Shadow Home Secretary and Wes Streeting is promoted to shadow health secretary, handing him a key role in scrutinising the government’s response to the pandemic.
Keir Starmer said the reshuffle would give him a “smaller, more focused shadow cabinet that mirrors the shape of the government we are shadowing”.
