Sir Jim Ratcliffe has claimed Manchester United would be bankrupt by Christmas this year if they did not introduce the controversial cost-cutting measures which has seen him face criticism from Red Devils supporters.

In a wide ranging interview with Gary Neville Ratcliffe has said Ruben Amorim is “not perfect” but remains the right man to coach Manchester United

On the club’s finances Ratcliffe defended his decision to make 450 of the club’s 1,140 staff being made redundant saying that
the club was haemorrhaging cash after seven years of losses.

“We found out we even had a body language consultant on £175,000 a year,” he said.

“I think I have to accept that I am going to be unpopular. I don’t know how long I’ll be unpopular; maybe I’ll be unpopular for a long amount of time, but I think it’s worth being unpopular to fight our way through the changes to get Manchester United back to where it should be.”

On the decision to keep Erik Ten Hag after the FA Cup final win last May, Radcliffe said that it was a mistake to continue with the manager

Meanwhile in In a separate interview with the BBC, Ratcliffe said that some of the United players were “overpaid” and “not good enough”.

Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho – who are on loan at other clubs – were namechecked by Radcliffe

However He also denied recent reports that the club may sell academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho to help to balance their books. “We won’t be selling players because of the state we are in financially,” he added
