The UK economy grew by 0.2% in January, according to the Office for National Statistics in figures out this morning
The news raises hopes that the country could be on its way out of a shallow recession
Much of the growth wa driven by the expansion of the services sector, following a tech recession in the second half 2023
Sales were also up along with an increase in construction work and Human, health and social activity also saw an expansion of 0.6 per cent in January.
The economy picked up in January with strong growth in retail and wholesaling. Construction also performed well with housebuilders having a good month, having been subdued for much of the last year,” Liz McKeown, director of economic statistics at the ONS said.
