Police have named the two men who were stabbed to death in Moss Side in the early hours of Sunday morning

They are Norman Scott aged 68 and Sidy Fall aged 75 both local to Moss Side.

Sidy is the father of the 23-year-old man arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder. He currently remains in custody detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police do not believe Norman was previously known to the suspect.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, district commander for the City of Manchester division, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones, filled with grief after receiving the most devastating news yesterday. They are being supported by specialist liaison officers and kept up to date throughout our investigation.

“The tragedy of two lives lost has been felt throughout the community and further afield, and we are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community.

“The man we swiftly arrested on Sunday is now detained under the Mental Health Act, and we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this.

“The scene along Great Southern Street has been significantly reduced, enabling people who live, visit, or travel through the area to go about their business.

“Local neighbourhood officers will be visible throughout the coming days to provide a reassuring presence to the community. If you have any questions or concerns, please approach them; they would be happy to speak with you.

“Anyone with information that could assist officers as they make enquiries should contact us on 101 quoting 553 of 17/11/24.
