Two men have been arrested following a firearms discharge in Openshaw.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody after shots were fired on Bob Massey Close on Monday night.

They left a 26-year-old man with a bullet wound to the chest. He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

A 24 -year-old man was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Officers are keen to stress that this is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is believed to be no further threat to the public.

Extra police patrols have been deployed in the area for the coming days.
