Planning chiefs in Trafford have backed proposals to build nearly 60 much-needed new homes in the borough.

The Council’s Planning Committee approved plans by Eccleston Homes for 57 new homes in the Davyhulme area of the borough.

The development will include 38 houses and 19 apartments, ranging in size, with 25% of units proposed as affordable homes.

Initial proposals were rejected on design grounds in 2022, but following substantial work by Eccleston’s design team, with support from officers at Trafford Council, the renewed proposals were approved at the committee meeting on Thursday 9 May.

Not only will the development deliver much-needed residential properties in the borough, it will also include new green spaces and public open space, both on and off the site. New walking and cycling routes will be developed and it will be easier to get between Davyhulme and the wider borough and Greater Manchester region.

Preserving habitats and ensuring that wildlife has a chance to flourish has also been a key consideration of the new proposal. The approved plans place sustainability at its heart, and the site will be designed and operated in an environmentally conscious way.

Cllr Liz Patel, Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration at Trafford Council, commented: “We recognise that a shortage of housing is a key issue for the residents of Trafford so where appropriate we are always keen to support proposals for new developments, particularly those which offer so many positives, such as affordable housing, high quality design and excellent sustainability credentials.”

“I’d like to thank Ecclestone Homes for their considerable efforts to completely revisit the proposal after their previous scheme was refused, and I look forward to seeing the development progress to create more homes for the people of our borough.”

Rebecca Hilton, Associate Director at Eden Planning, added: “We understand the power of pro-actively engaging with officers to unlock sites through collaborative pre-application discussion. Hosting the discussions early on ensures a strong understanding of key issues, builds trust and confidence between all parties. Barton Road is a great example of highly effective pre-application discovery sessions, translating to a high-quality design which will deliver a place that the Trafford community can really get excited about.”
