The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Myanmar has surged past 1,000.
According to the ruling military junta, 1,002 people have been confirmed dead, and 2,376 injured. At least 30 are still missing.
The earthquake centred just under 11 miles from the city of Mandalay in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) also hit neighbouring regions, including Thailand and China’s Yunnan Province, which felt significant tremors.
