The fight isn’t over yet they say but Chester Zoo is forever grateful to its supporters after it received the news that we’ll be able to open safely from 15 June.

The Prime Minister is expected to announce later today that zoos will be allowed to reopen at the same time as non essential shops from next Monday.

“There’s no denying that we have suffered severe financial damage over the past three months and the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. But, your incredibly kind donations, animal adoptions and memberships have given us a vital lifeline.Over the next few days we’ll be letting you know when and how you’ll be able to book a ticket to visit. Please bear with us while we do this.”

“The zoo had appealed to the Government saying that the most effective support the it  could provide right now, is to allow us – just like car showrooms, non-essential shops and other outdoor gardens – to put in place our already council approved Covid-secure plan to reopen safely, and continue to prevent extinction.

The Zoo has been losing at least £1m a month over the lockdown and there were fears that it, along with other zoos would have to begin to put down animals to save further costs
