Teachers in England and Wales have voted for strike action in February and March
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) have voted for seven days of action with the first strike on February 1st
Each school can only be affected by four dates, the union said with the last date the 16th March
Teachers were offered a 5% pay rise last year but the NEU is seeking 12%.
A total of 92% of NEU members backed strikes, with 58% of members returning their ballot forms – more than the 50% turnout required.
A source close to the NEU Executive said they hoped the result would “send shockwaves through government…which simply didn’t believe it was possible for us to do this”.
