Labour leader Keir Starmer haofficially became UK’s 58th prime minister after being appointed by British monarch Charles III.

Arriving in Downing Starmer said that

“Our country has voted decisively for change. A national renewal. And a return to politics as public service.”

He described a “weariness in the heart of the nation” and “this wound, this lack of trust can only be healed by actions not words. I know that.”

He promised that he will govern for all as he addresses nation outside No 10.

“If you voted Labour yesterday we will carry the responsibility of your trust as we rebuild our country.

“But whether you voted Labour or not, in fact, especially if you did not, I say to you directly, my government will serve you”.

The country he said needs a “bigger reset” and a “rediscovery of who we are” as he promised to serve country first, party second and govern for everyone.

Changing the country is not like flicking a switch. The world is more volatile. This will take a while he said adding

‘But have no doubt that the work will begin immediately. We will rebuild

‘Brick by brick we will rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity’

He says his government will be ‘unburdened by doctrine’ and will defy those who have written Britain off and pledged to end the era of ‘noisy performance’ and treat more lightly on people’s lives

‘With respect and humility I invite you all to join this government of service with a mission of national renewal. Our work is urgent and we begin it today’
