The Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has accused Elon Musk of “spreading lies” and said a line “has been crossed” over his comments about child grooming gangs
“Those that are spreading lies… are not interested in victims, they’re interested in themselves….cheerleading Tommy Robinson… who went to prison for nearly collapsing a gang grooming case.”
He told a Press Conference this morning where he outlined plans to cut waiting lists in the health service that he was calling out “the poison of the far right”
A lot of his criticism was directed at Kemi Badenoch and the Tories for endorsing much of what he said about alleged institutional failure to take sufficient action against child-grooming gangs.
He was especially critical about Tory failure to call out what he sees as abusive and dangerous comments about Jess Phillips
“Once we lose the anchor that truth matters in the robust debate we must have, then we’re on a very slippery slope.”
Starmer added that child sexual exploitation is “utterly sickening” and said he had “tackled that head on” as director of public prosecutions
Starmer also said that the ‘last thing we need is another report, we just need to get on with what’s already been recommended many times.’
While he was not closing his mind to further inquiries he’s “frustrated” by calls for more reviews when several have already been conducted and now it’s about taking action.
