Seven people have been reported as injured and taken to hospital after a bus hit part of the central reservation in the centre of Manchester this lunchtime
The accident happened at the junction of Whitworth Street and Oxford Street at lunchtime with police closing roads in the area
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said:
“GMP are responding to an ongoing road traffic collision in Manchester city centre. At around 12.35pm today officers responded to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus on Whitworth Street in Manchester City Centre.
“Emergency services attended the scene and no serious injuries were reported. Initial enquiries suggested that a bus had collided with a central reservation on the junction with Oxford Street and Whitworth Street, emergency services are still in attendance, with the road currently closed as they continue to clear the road.”
Councillor Pat Karney who has responsibility for the City Centre tweeted
“This is one of the busiest and at times dangerous junctions in the city centre
We will review the details of this serious accident to see what immediate lessons we can learn.We hope everyone is ok.”
