The Prime Minister will after all be attending the COP 27 climate summit in Egypt
In a tweet Sunak said
“There is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change.
There is no energy security without investing in renewables.
That is why I will attend @COP27P next week: to deliver on Glasgow’s legacy of building a secure and sustainable future.”
He had earlier cited dealing with domestic problems as a reason for staying in the U.K.
but with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson attending along with the French and American President,Sunak has changed his mind
Caroline Lucas, the Green MP, labelled Rishi Sunak’s reversal on attending COP27 a “screeching U-turn”.
She tweeted:
“Let this be a lesson to him – climate leadership matters. Now he urgently needs to increase UK ambition on emission reduction targets & pay what we owe to global climate funds.”
