Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has criticised the comments of a Conservative MP who took to Twitter suggesting that it was the parents job to make sure that children were fed
Kevin Hollinrake, the MP for Thirsk and Malton tweeted that :
“Where they can, it’s a parents job to feed their children.” during a discussion that began with a tweet that said 186,000 discounted meals had been claimed via the government’s “eat out to help out” scheme in his North Yorkshire constituency.
Rashford replied to his three million twitter followers that “I would urge you to talk to families before tweeting. To this day I haven’t met one parent who hasn’t wanted or felt the responsibility to feed their children…”
Rashford whose lobbying saw the Government U turn earlier in the summer of the continuation of the scheme to provide free school meals then added;
“Put to the side that this comment came from an MP. It’s comments like this that prevent people from speaking their truth and asking for help. We need to start uplifting each other. I would have had the same response to anyone tweeting this..”
