Polling stations are opening from 7.00am this morning as people across the region prepare to choose their next MP and have a day in which Government will run the country for potentially the next five years

Voters are being reminded that this is the first general election which will require voters to produce ID before they cast their vote

Acceptable forms of ID are passport,driving license,blue badge,bus pass or ID with a pass mark

The name on your ID must be the same as that on the electoral register and you can still use your ID even if it out of date as long as the photo still resembles you

The last polls continue to show Labour on course for a huge majority with the last YouGov survey of the campaign showing Labour was on track for a 212-seat majority, with the Conservatives reduced to just 102 MPs with some big names losing their seats including the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt while even Rishi Sunak could be in peril

Meanwhile a final major poll, from Survation, says that Reform is on track to win 13 seats.

Polls close at 10.00pm with the exit poll hitting the airways at the same time,It correctly got the result right in 2017 and 2019 and should signal whether Labour is heading for a landslide

Newly elected MPs could have their victories challenged because of delays to delivering postal votes, lawyers have said.
