Police are looking for this man after two calls from members of the public reporting they had seen a man acting suspiciously around Deansgate in the city centre last night
Members of the public also reported that they believe he may have been carrying a weapon, and while it is understood that this man did not make direct threats to the public, police are keen to quickly identify the man pictured as would like to speak to him.
Through enquiries so far, it is believed that he walked from The Arndale, past the Royal Exchange Theatre, through Cross Street to Albert Square and then walked down Deansgate.
Detective Inspector John Lowe, from GMP’s city centre Criminal Investigation Department, said: “We understand this will cause some concern for those who live, work and visit our city and we have a lot of resources that are working round the clock to establish who this man is and his whereabouts.
“Thankfully, no direct threats were reported to us from last night but since yesterday evening, we have deployed additional officers to patrol areas in the city centre, while detectives work hard to establish a full timeline of events and locate the man.
“We are releasing a CCTV image of the man we wish to speak to alongside an image of what we believe he was wearing last night. We hope in releasing this, it may jog memories of those in the area at the time to come forward as it is really important that we can locate the man in the picture as he could hold vital information to help us with our investigation.
“We are additionally looking for any dashcam or mobile footage from the city centre.
“I would urge members of the public to not approach this person for their own safety if seen and for those who witnessed or do witness anything to please come forward and report this information to us instead. No matter how small the information may seem, it could prove vital to the investigation.”
