Police have arrested a eighteen year old man in connection with the rape of a seventeen year old girl in Ashton yesterday.
The teenager was attacked around 10.00 pm in a wooded area near Cavendish Street last night.
The victim is continuing to receive support from specially trained officers.
Detective Sergeant Joe Harrop, of GMP’s Tameside Borough, said: “We have been carrying out numerous lines of enquiry since the initial report was made last night and we now have an 18-year-old in custody arrested on suspicion of rape.
“I want to stress that our investigation remains in the early stages and continue to urge anybody with information to contact police.”
