Police,including officers from Greater Manchester stopped over 400 vehicles in a month long crackdown along the length of the M62
Operation Pennine used unmarked HGV cabs to spot unsafe driving.
Top of the list of offences were drivers using mobile phones while driving while Greater Manchester Police found a common trend of overloading in their region with 66 vehicles being caught overweight.
Operation Pennine didn’t just net driving offences. West Yorkshire officers tracked a stolen car transporter to a nearby city where it was recovered. North West Commercial Vehicle Unit recovered a £15,000 civil penalty related to people smuggling.
In total 435 vehicles were stopped (including 175 HGVs and 96 private vehicles and 375 offences were recorded
These included 86 drivers caught using mobile phones at the wheel,49 breaches of driving hours rules and 34 people not wearing seatbelts
