An exciting new dance initiative is about to happen in the North West.

Bury Youth Dance is the first youth dance company to be resident in Bury and hopes to bridge the gap between commercial companies and formal dance schools. Bury Youth Dance will help young people to build experience and careers in the dance world, developing their skills and talents in contemporary styles as well as forging networks and connections with the thriving dance scene in Manchester and beyond.

Bury Youth Dance is looking for passionate and committed young people aged 11-18. Those interested must have some experience in dance (any style is welcome) and want to build their technical and performance skills.

The group will formally launch at Bury Met on Wednesday 23rd October 2-4pm with a Taster Workshop. Interested young people will be invited to meet the choreographer, Rosie Hynes, learn a routine and share their passion for dance.

Weekly sessions will then begin on Monday evenings in term time 7pm-8.30 at The Met.

For their first performance Bury Youth Dance will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a brand-new piece of dance film to be created and shared as part of Manchester’s Eurovision Party in 2025.

Working alongside choreographer Rosie Hynes, the company will perform an interval act piece for the event, screened in a 4D environment.

Rosie specialises in physical and dance theatre and has been performing professionally for over 30 years, both nationally and internationally. Her credits include Warner Brothers, Red Bull, Disney and NSCD. A graduate of the University of Salford, she has taught dancers of all ranges and abilities for over 16 years.

Rosie Hynes said:

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome a fresh wave of talent to Bury Youth Dance. The amazing opportunities ahead include taking part next year in Manchagen, the UK’s largest Eurovision screening, in front of thousands of people. The performance takes place in an immersive performance space in Manchester and will be screened across Europe! Bury Youth Dance promises to be a unique training opportunity for young dancers that places inclusion, diversity and excellence at the forefront and I’m thrilled to be leading this new project.”
