The North of England based supermarket chain has announced that it will be closing 17 of its standalone convenience stores as well as cafes and pharmacies and dozens of meat and fish counters at its shops

The announcement said that a “significant majority” of staff affected by the changes were expected to be deployed in elsewhere in Morrisons, but that there will be a total of around 365 colleagues at risk of redundancy.

Two stores will be affected in Greater Manchester, the cafe in the Poplar Road store in Failsworth and the Daily Store in Eccles on Irwell Street

Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: ‘The changes we are announcing today are a necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate Morrisons and enable us to focus our investment into the areas that customers really value and that can play a full part in our growth.’
