There will be more tram disruption in the City Centre next week with the replacement of Metrolink tracks between Market Street and High Street/Church Street.
Works will take place from Tuesday 25 March until end of service on Wednesday, 23 April, with no trams operating via Market Street or Shudehill during these works.
Trafford Centre services will run to Etihad Campus and all Altrincham services will run to Bury, while other cross-city services will divert via Exchange Square.
Passengers who want to travel across the city centre during these works can interchange at St Peter’s Square to reach Victoria Station by Metrolink, or can use the Free Bus services, which connects the main public transport destinations and all points in between.
A replacement bus service will only run outside of the Free Bus operating times – further details can be found on the Bee Network website.
Tram tickets will only be accepted on the replacement bus, not on numbered bus services.
Track replacement is part of a planned £147m package to maintain, upgrade and improve the Metrolink network up to 2027.
So far this year work has been successfully completed at York Street, in Manchester city, as well as between Eccles and MediaCityUK.
Further track works are planned for various city centre locations later this year including at Portland Street, Aytoun Street and Piccadilly Gardens.
The rolling programme of works – funded from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement – will ensure the network keeps on delivering safe, reliable and accessible services for millions more people into the future.
Ian Davies, TfGM’s Network Director for Metrolink, said: “Metrolink is the country’s biggest light rail system, with thousands of journeys being made on it ever day of the week – so it’s critically important we make sure it remains a safe, reliable and accessible way to get around Greater Manchester well into the future.
“We will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption for passengers, and I would encourage people to plan ahead and check our website or the Bee Network app for the latest travel information before setting off.
“Don’t forget to make use of the Free Bus services, which are fully accessible and passengers can ‘hop’ on and off around the city centre.”
