In a remarkable demonstration of community spirit and generosity, Merseyway Shopping Centre’s pop-up Uniform Shop has once again, achieved tremendous success, providing crucial support to over a thousand local families in Stockport.

Open for just one week from Saturday 10th – Saturday 17th August, the sustainable shop was welcomed with daily queues out of the door, supplying over 6,000 secondhand school uniform items to Stockport-based families.

Giving essential support to parents as they prepare for the new school year, all uniform items were sold for small donations of just 50p per piece or provided free of charge, raising over £1,000 for Arc Centre Stockport and Chelwood Food Bank Plus, two local charities that play a crucial role in supporting the community.

The success of this heartwarming project was made possible due to the overwhelming generosity of the Stockport community. After an appeal in July for good quality, secondhand school uniform, thousands of donations came flooding in from local families, shoppers, Stockport schools and Stockport libraries. These amazing contributions filled the shop’s shelves with a wide variety of items, including blazers, shirts, jumpers, skirts and trousers, as well as shoes, bags and accessories.

Located in Pop Up Stockport, the shop was entirely run by volunteers from the Merseyway Management Team and Stockport Council, who selflessly dedicated their personal time to manage the store.

Merseyway Centre Manager, Victoria Nichol said: “The success of the Uniform Shop is a testament to the incredible spirit of Stockport. Seeing so many people come together to support each other and make a difference in our community has been truly heart-warming and is a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together with a shared purpose.”

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved at Merseyway for the preparation and running of this pop-up store and to all those in the community for the overwhelming amount of donations.”

The funds raised through this initiative will go directly to ARC Centre Stockport and Chelwood Food Bank Plus, extending the positive impact of the shop’s success. ARC Centre Stockport is committed to improving mental health and well-being, while Chelwood Food Bank Plus provides essential food and support to those in need. The money raised will enable these organisations to continue their vital work, making a real difference to the lives of many within the community.
