Tom Daley has officially been crowned the UK’s favourite Olympian. Over a third of Brits (36%) voted for Tom as their gold choice.

He beat swimmer, Adam Peaty with one in five (20%) voting him into silver spot and runner, Keely Hodgkinson came in bronze on the podium with 10% of the votes, according to a nationwide survey conducted by consumer insight business, Vypr.

To mark this accolade, a striking 3m x 4m portrait made entirely from salad was unveiled today at Manchester’s No1 entertainment destination, Printworks.

This extraordinary artwork, crafted by renowned Britain’s Got Talent artist, Nathan Wyburn, captures Daley’s likeness in a unique and health-inspired manner, highlighting his iconic status like never before.

Ingredients for the masterpiece includes 20 lettuces, 300 tomatoes, 30 cucumbers, 20 bags of spinach and a rainbow of 200 peppers and 10 tubs of tomato puree.

But wait, there’s more – weight to be precise! As resistance bands and dumbells in the shape of his silver Olympic medal add a whole new layer to this edible artwork.

Kristian Brennan, spokesperson for Printworks, Manchester, said: “Nathan brought our vision to life with his innovative artwork, and we’re thrilled with the outcome. Collaborating with our venues, Hard Rock Café and Nuffield Health, he crafted this unique piece using salad ingredients and gym equipment as a creative tribute to Tom’s athleticism.

“After the public exhibition, all salad components from the portrait will be donated to the rabbits at Longford Park Animal Corner, ensuring the artwork supports the local community.”

Internationally renowned artist, Nathan Wyburn, age 34 from Wales, specialises in creating iconic celebrity portraits from food along with other everyday items. Tom Daley joins a list of other famous faces including Hi Majesty King Charles and Queen Camilla, Debbie Harry. Kylie Minogue, Idris Elba, Sting and Mariah Carey who have all been honoured by Nathan in a similar way.

Nathan added: “The salad portrait took over five hours to create on the day of the unveiling, along with extensive planning and practice to capture Daley’s likeness, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result. Tom is a true sporting icon, and he’s never looked so fresh – especially when made entirely of salad!”.
