Manchester Central is gearing up to host a special festive celebration this Friday (6 December) for older residents from across Manchester.
Now in its seventh year, One Day At Christmas is a nationwide initiative that brings the holiday spirit to those who might otherwise spend the holiday season alone.
This year, eight large venues across the UK – including London’s ExCeL, CBS Arena in Coventry, and the Royal Armouries in Leeds – are joining the campaign, with each hosting its own festive gathering simultaneously.
Manchester Central expects to welcome more than 200 guests for a festive Christmas dinner, including older residents from the Age Friendly Manchester Older People’s Board, Assembly and Libraries groups who have also invited along isolated friends and neighbours.
Entertainment for the event will feature performances by Bridgewater Halls Singers and the Wai Yin Dancers and violist Greg Scott to bring some extra holiday cheer. Manchester’s Lord Mayor, Paul Andrews, and Elaine Unegbu, Chair of the Age Friendly Older People’s Board will also welcome guests.
Lori Hoinkes, CEO of Manchester Central, commented, “One Day at Christmas is a truly heartwarming event that brings the joy of the season to those who may not have others to celebrate with. We’re especially proud to host this gathering here at Manchester Central, and we look forward to sharing a bit of festive magic with our wonderful guests during these challenging times.”
