The M6 Northbound will only have one lane running for the next few hours while vehicles are recovered and road cleaned say the North West Motorway Police

A multi vehicle accident earlier today involving a tanker and four HGV’s in which one person is reported seriously injured and has been taken to Royal Stoke Hospital though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

It happened around 4.30 and saw all three lanes initial shut Northbond between Junction 18-19 with two hour delays reported and motorists advised to find an alternative route and over 6km of delays

A spokesperson said: “Traffic is currently passing the scene of the incident in lane four but there is heavy congestion in the area and drivers are being advised to avoid this section of the northbound M6 by delaying journeys or taking alternative routes.

“National Highways is at the scene working to recover the five HGVs and a shed load and to clean the carriageway – with diesel fuel and hydraulic and engine oil spilled across the lanes.

“The carriageway will also need to be inspected for damage and potentially repaired before it can be fully re-opened. Lanes are likely to remain closed throughout the morning while this work takes place.”
