The Howells-designed “NXQ” has been submitted for planning.

Located in a prominent position in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, the building delivers a new high quality, healthy Tech Hub whilst retaining and restoring key heritage assets and being respectful to its historic neighbours – including the Grade II-listed Daily Express Building.

The design of NXQ aims to provide a signpost for the neighbourhood as well as a healthy, welcoming commercial hub to attract and nurture the best creative, digital and tech organisations.

Director Adam Desborough, who is leading the project said:

“Our adaptive re-use of an existing block will deliver a new Tech Hub which pays homage to the exceptional Art Deco ‘Streamline Moderne’ Express Building, alongside the careful and measured retention and restoration of historic buildings and facades along Lever Street.”

Following approval, and once on site, the building is due to be completed by 2027 to 2028.
