The Labour MP and former Manchester Councillor Mike Amesbury had been jailed for ten weeks after pleading guilty to assaulting a constituent last year
The court heard how he said “you won’t threaten your MP again will you?” in a late night altercation
There are calls for him to step down as an MP with Reform eyeing up his constituency as a target seat
Reform UK Chairman, Zia Yusuf said: “Today Mike Amesbury has been sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.
“The great people of Runcorn deserve far better than waiting six weeks for a recall petition to take place.
“We call on Mike Amesbury to do the honourable thing and resign immediately so a by-election can be held.”
