King William IV, a community pub in Newton, is celebrating after donating 771 Easter eggs to the Children’s Department at the Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne.
Since the start of February, the pub has been collecting Easter eggs kindly donated by Hyde locals, while also raising funds through a series of raffles. All proceeds from the raffles have been used to purchase additional Easter eggs to donate to the hospital.
King William IV’s annual Easter egg appeal saw an incredible 750 eggs donated to the hospital last year – a heartwarming effort that brought Easter joy to many less fortunate children.
On Tuesday, pub Operator Nicole Webb delivered all 771 Easter eggs to the hospital, where staff expressed their heartfelt thanks. The generous donation brought smiles to the faces of many children who will sadly be spending their Easter in hospital.
This monumental fundraising effort could not have been achieved without the generosity of the Newton community – many people in the area have personal connections to the Tameside Hospital and were eager to help a great cause.
For Operator Nicole Webb, this cause is particularly close to home. She was inspired to donate as many Easter eggs as possible due to having a child herself and understanding just how daunting hospitals can be for little ones.
Nicole said: “To see the community come together to support such an important cause is a heartwarming and prime example of what makes the Newton community so brilliant.
“The guests here at the King William IV are always keen to support the local community and get behind any ideas I have. We do something similar at Christmas with toy and selection box donations.
“My aim is simple – to put a smile on every child’s face who enters the hospital by giving them an Easter egg. I want to help bring a bit of joy to children who might be going through a tough time.”
