Britain’s New Chancellor Rachel Reeves has accused the Tories of running away and has said that “I don’t think anyone realized quite how bad things were.”

Appearing on the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, she told the programme

“If the former prime minister and chancellor thought things were so good, they would have allowed the election to take place in the autumn. They called an election because they weren’t willing to take tough decisions and they just ran away.”

Treasury Secretary James Murray later said that

“We knew we would inherit the worst set of circumstances since the Second World War. Everything we have seen since the election confirms that.

We will get our country back on track by always putting economic stability, fiscal responsibility, and growth at the heart of what we do.“

According to the Sunday Times, there is ow an £8 billion black hole in the public finances because the last government did not budget pay increases in ahead of the next fiscal event.

Reeves told the programme

“We can’t carry on not building energy infrastructure and housing.. Because if we carry on as we are we will rely on Putin and dictators around the world for our energy needs.. We’re going to need to take tough decisions.. I’m not going to shy away from that”

“We were elected on a mandate to change things, not to carry on, because people are sick of the status quo.. We’re not about the status quo, we’re about changing things for the better”
