Update-Pleased to report that Alan was found on Friday Evening in Salford

Police are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of a missing man from Moston.

Alan Wood, 79, was last seen leaving his home in Moston at around 2.30pm on Thursday 29 December 2016 when he went to go for a walk.

He has not returned and police have been carrying out extensive searches in the area surrounding his home.

This has included the use of a helicopter and police dogs, in addition to officers making door-to-door enquiries.

Officers have now shifted the focus of their search to the Chorlton area, where Mr Wood often goes to use the town centre shops and pubs.

Mr Wood has dementia but is described as being physically fit and often goes out walking for several hours.

However, it is out of character for him not to return home after such a long period of time.

He is described as white and of slim build with short thinning brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a black quilted jacket with blue pants and was carrying a white bag.

Detective Inspector Liam Boden, of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Alan’s welfare and his family are becoming ever more distressed.

“We are putting increased police resources into the Chorlton area as we continue our thorough efforts to find him.

“Our initial press appeal has prompted a flurry of calls to Alan’s family from concerned friends and it is clear that Alan is a popular and well known man.

“I would urge everyone who sees this appeal to please study the photos of Alan and be alert to the possibility of seeing him.

“I would encourage anyone who believes they may have seen Alan to please get in touch as soon as possible to help ensure we reunite him with his family.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 3678 or 101.
