The Independent Office for Police Complaints have cleared Greater Manchester Police of any wrong doing over the death in custody of Joseph Coleman in 2019.
The 57 year old died after being arrested at his home and taken to Cheadle Heath Police station where he became ill.
An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital where he died.
An inquest into Mr Coleman’s death that concluded on Monday, 8 March ruled that Mr Coleman died due to an overdose of a combination of prescription drugs, cocaine and alcohol, as well as the stress of the events on his heart.
IOPC Regional Director Amanda Rowe said: “First of all, our thoughts remain with Mr Coleman’s family and all those affected by his death.
“Our investigation into Mr Coleman’s death in GMP custody was thorough and meticulous. We looked at all the evidence available to us, including body worn video, CCTV footage and witness accounts, and concluded that the actions of the police officers and other members of GMP staff did not contribute to Mr Coleman’s death.”
