Many punters look to gain an edge by studying trends, and there’s one particular stat that could put the hopes of three of this year’s Grand National favourites in jeopardy.
History has shown us that only three horses since 1961 were able to follow up victories at March’s Cheltenham Festival by winning the Grand National in the same season – a trend that would rule 6/1 favourite Corach Rambler out of reckoning for this year, as well as Delta Work and Gaillard Du Mesnil.
But where does that leave us when it comes to alternative tips for Grand National? These are our predictions according to experts at Grandnational.org.uk:
Noble Yeats (8/1)
Noble Yeats won the 2022 Grand National and went on to enjoy an impressive 12 months, winning twice more, before staying on gallantly in the Cheltenham Gold Cup to finish fourth. He’s sure to prove popular on the day with those who remember his name, so backing him early could turn out to be a wise move.
Any Second Now (16/1)
Any Second Now is one horse who undoubtedly excels over the famous Grand National fences, finishing third in 2021 and going one better in 2022. He won at Navan last time out and trainer Ted Walsh spoke positively afterwards, saying, “I’m happy with him now. Any time he has gone to Aintree he has gone with a win, in this race twice and the Bobbyjo last year. He’s been a model of consistency. I’m glad they got this meeting on. It’s a month to Aintree now and that should be grand.”
Longhouse Poet (20/1)
Longhouse Poet ran well in last year’s Grand National, only fading towards the end when right in contention, and eventually finishing sixth. Trainer Martin Brassil knows what it takes to win the National, thanks to Numbersixvalverde in 2006, and should be high on confidence after Longhouse Poet won at Down Royal on his last outing.
