The German football legend Franz Beckenbauer has died at the age of 78.
Known as the Kaiser, he was regarded as one of the best defenders to have played
Beckenbauer led West Germany to their World Cup triumph in 1974 and has been a member of the team that lost to England in 1966 and won as the manager of the German team in 1990
He was credited with inventing the sweeper system and was twice a winner of the Ballon d’Or
