Salford City Football Club have announced announced that the Club has been acquired by a new ownership group led by David Beckham and Gary Neville.
The new ownership group includes US-based businessman Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies, who will both serve as new Co-Chairs of the Club’s Board;
The acquisition includes a commitment by the new shareholders to invest significantly in the Club, the team and its facilities
The Class of 92 members Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville will continue to have roles in the Club across technical, football, commercial, and recruitment aspects, and Foundation 92.
Consello, one of the world’s leading advisory and investing firms, founded and run by Declan Kelly, will work alongside Salford City to develop a new commercial strategy for the Club. This will be under the leadership of Janey Whiteside, Chief Growth Officer of Consello and former Chief Commercial Officer at Walmart. SCFC is looking forward to bringing on a series of commercial partners across the U.K., U.S., Europe, and Asia.
David Beckham said: “I grew up in Salford….I have such fond memories of my time living there and the place and its people played such an important part in my early life in football. Salford City is at the heart of its community….it has a rich history and I am delighted to be a part of the next chapter.”
Declan Kelly and Mervyn Davies said in a joint statement:
