The former GMP Detective Maggie Oliver has written to the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper threatening her with legal action unless she implemented all twenty recommendations over the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and publishes a timetable for implementation of those recommendations

Oliver who resigned from the force back in 2012 over its lack of action over grooming allegations in Rochdale sent a twenty page letter to Cooper hours before she stood up in Parliament to announce that there would be a limited inquiry said in a statement

“over 10 days working closely with my legal team, yesterday they submitted a letter before action (pre action protocol letter) to Yvette Cooper MP (Secretary of State for the Home Department. In that letter, I have put the Secretary of State on notice, that I will commence action in the High Court (a judicial review), unless the Secretary of State:

1.       Publicly confirms that she will implement all 20 of the recommendations of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), and
2.       Publishes a timetable for implementation of those recommendations, and,
3.       Takes urgent steps to allay widespread public concern regarding the grooming and sexual abuse by organised gangs/groups.

I have informed the Secretary of State that, if she does not agree to these reasonable requests, that I will issue an application to the High Court seeking permission to challenge the Secretary of State’s refusal to take action on urgent issues of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation.

I recognise that there are a range of views on these issues amongst survivors, victims and other interested parties. However, I would ask all persons who are concerned about children to support my request for urgent, tangible and transparent action to combat the epidemic of abuse of children.

I find it ‘interesting’ that she now plans to deliver a statement in the Commons today at 2pm….. and I cannot notice the timing of this following the hand delivering of this protocol by my lawyers yesterday afternoon.
